My Burned Leg One Year Later
It was a year ago yesterday I decided to do something really stupid and hop on the back of a cop’s motorcycle to have my picture taken. Here’s the story of what happened.
Here’s the gory photo of what it looked like before all the skin fell off. The one good thing that came out of this burn was when I started walking every day when I couldn’t ride my bike. That walking turned into slowly jogging. And that slow jogging turned in to me running a 5k, 2 10k’s, and a half marathon in the last year! All things I’ve never done before.
I went to the doctor about a month ago and she told me it has healed as best as I could have hoped for. Keeping the tegaderm patch on it through the healing process turned out to be key to it properly healing. There wasn’t much else I could do anyways.
A year later and the skin is still very thin. It feels delicate to the touch even. But I have noticed an improvement in the texture of the skin since I discovered and started using this super expensive but totally awesome lotion from 80 Acres. This lotion is to die for. I use the Verde scent. Made in California!
I’m super vigilant about keeping high SPF sunblock on it. I try to never expose it to direct sunlight – I’ll keep that part of my leg covered if I’m lounging by the pool. I’m also told it could be many years before the skin ever turns from something other than ghostly white – if it ever turns at all. No hair grows there yet either. That may never return. The little pink spots you see are my hair follicles though.
And now for the big reveal – how it looks on its one year anniversary.
I’m happy to report I controlled myself at this year’s National Night Out event and did not climb on any cop motorcycles.Posted in injury, life
